Slattadale Forest Planting Record Notes

This series of pages along with others (missing) would normally have formed a small booklet called a Forest Record which were in use in the Forestry Commission from around 1930-1950 and each forest was required to have one updated annually often backdated to the 1920s.
These particular pages highlight the annual repetitive work required to coax the earlier plantings of the 1920s into a successful forest. The forest history shown elsewhere on this site mentioned how the first plantings were virtual failures in many cases and an only succeeded with more cultivation, draining, mounding and fertiliser inputs onto newly replanted trees and some originals in a moribund state.
The records her run from 1935 to 1946 with a short chapter describing each year’s silvicultural activity.
