Sitka spruce planting verses - An Ex-Forestry Worker's Lament
Ian Adams of Glenbranter Forest Office provided this cutting of a poem that he had kept for many years.
The poem writer refers to Loch Eck and Glenbranter so must have worked there.
I take it that the person who had retained the poem for 30 years is Jimmy McRorie, Brodick, Isle of Arran.
Has anyone seen this poem before, know the author’s name or anything about him?

The poem was published in The Slasher and I think this might be the Jimmy McRorie who was in charge of the Tulliallan Nursery at Devilla and retired to Arran in the mid 1980's? Maybe someone else can confirm?

Great poem, reminds me of when I started work in Glengarry in 1964, only thing left out was the midgies.

Jimmy McRorie was forester in charge of Glenrickard Forest on Arran from its inception. The name was later changed to Arran Forest. Jimmy then moved to Glenbranter{when I was there}and then I think briefly to Balquidder before being at Devilla for the rest of his career. He then retired to Arran when I was in charge there. A very keen golfer, like me and we played many rounds together. He died a few years ago in his mid eighties I think. I did not know he had written this poem. What a great reminder of days gone by.
