Benmore Students in the rain

Benmore Students in the rain

Date Added: 09 May 2017 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1959 Picture No: 3683

This one of a set of images from photocopier scans and is courtesy of the staff at Glenbranter Forest Office.

Little was known of the details of people apart from a couple of names written on one of the images but one former student Bob Boyd has been tracked down to Northern Ireland and has provided the following information:

‘The one of Andy Orr and Bill Mason sheltering from the rain is very expressive, you can see the misery in their faces.’

The 1958-1960 trainees are in the middle of a young forestry planting all kitted out for the west Argyll heavy rain showers and stoically awaiting a dry spell.

Behind Andy and Bill are more students under what looks a bit like a tarpaulin (not sure) but a pair of hands can be seen holding a book or newspaper. Perhaps the tarpaulin was a no smoking zone!

The midges would have a field day if it was summer time.? Comment left on 09 May 2017 at 10:17 by Leslie Phillip
This must be one of the best pictures on this site of the many bad weather days in forestry, it is the guy in the middle his expression says it all. Comment left on 21 May 2017 at 19:15 by Leslie Phillip
