Priestman Lion III on Jimmy Munro’s lorry

Priestman Lion III on Jimmy Munro’s lorry

Date Added: 17 April 2017 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1963 Picture No: 3666

Photograph is courtesy of Margaret Murray, daughter of Jimmy Munro who is seen with his machine. There is no information with this photograph and year is a guess.

The low loader, Registration Number 150 DXC, is working hard as it climbs up steep road. The Priestman Lion must be on or about the load weight limit of the lorry and certainly would have required the crawler gear for part of the way.

Jimmy Munro is at the wheel but no name given for the passenger and unlikely to be the Priestman operator as he would be travelling with his car and caravan. The man does have a passing likeness to Jocky Wilson who was a roads foreman at Corrour Forest road workings. Can anyone name the man?

The PDF has some views of the lorry as it climbs the road and the surrounding area is seen more clearly. Perhaps someone will recognise the location and remember the large quarry (Hydro? Council?)at the roadside. What is presumed to be the excavator operator’s car and caravan is waiting at the top of the climb. Again can the operator be named? It is just possible that he is the photographer. See Record No 3665 which shows where the machine was taken from.

Passenger Jockey Wilson, roads foreman, lived in Fort Augustus Jenkins park. He was the Priestman digger operator at this time before his promotion to Foreman. Comment left on 11 June 2017 at 23:35 by Martin Mackenzie
