The Bar at Culbin Forest

The origin of this photograph is uncertain as it may have been taken around 1972 from the Forestry Commission forest survey aircraft or possibly by Sinclair M Ross who worked for the RAF.
The overhead view dramatically portrays the complex geological process of the modern formation of the Bar which Sinclair describes so well in his beautifully executed drawing of the process attached as a PDF to this image. The sand filled channel on the far side between the Bar and the ground with the trees was once said to be the old channel of the river Findhorn the details of which are explained in Picture Record No 3653.
