Benmore Forester Training School - Dunoon

Benmore Forester Training School - Dunoon

Date Added: 22 March 2017 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1933 Picture No: 3629

Photograph courtesy of Sandy Gordon, Forres area, whose father James Gordon was a long service forester in the Forestry Commission.

This group of what is assumed to be foresters have gathered at Benmore House which was at this date in its fourth year as a Forester Training School (more correctly at this time known as Forest Apprentice School) under the charge of Harry Watson. The men are not wearing any sort of badge or society identity which could mean that this is a group of colleagues on a forestry outing say the tenth anniversary of graduating from the Beaufort Forestry School? However on the back of the photograph a Badge No is quoted 3A70845 and any information on this would be very welcome.

The individual members have been numbered but only two people can be named and they are:

11. James Gordon (Forester based in Mull – Salen Forest)
13. Harry Watson (Head of Benmore Forester Training School)

Any information on the other members of the group would be very welcome.
