A great action image of operator working as he points a four inch peeled round post on a McConnel saw bench. This is a follow on image to that in Picture No 3322. Note the piece of wood fixed to the bench at an angle to the saw blade to guide the cut pieces off the bench top and prevent the points catching the saw blade and flying back towards the operator.

The photograph gives a glimpse of a well organised timber processing yard designed to maximise the potential from local forest thinnings by converting the timber into round products such as peeled fence posts and strainers. The location is thought to be Speymouth Forest but not certain as it could also be sawmill at Mosstodloch? There is no mention of a creosote treatment plant and they may have depended on using their lorries with Hiab hoists to take posts to local treatment works or used mainly larch products.

Can anyone name this worker and give a description of the processing yard and its location?
