Part only of South Laggan Forest stock map which shows the northern end. This map would have been produced following an extensive forest survey probably over the previous two years. The compartments visible run from No 1- 35 plus 66- 77 all planted on the very steep and friable soil slopes on the east side of the land between Loch Oich and Loch Lochy. This was one of the very early forests and the planting years shown run from 1920- 1923 with additional higher elevation planting carried out in the1960s. The forest is remarkable for the very high proportions of Norway and Sitka spruce giving an indication of soil quality.

The map does not highlight Forest Worker Holdings or the site of the forest nursery all on the lower land next to the main public road.
A search of some old records indicates that Wm. Mason was the forester in charge in 1925 and possibly since the land was first acquired in 1919. The forest was certainly fully planted by this point and with no more early land acquisitions on the horizon Wm. Mason was in Glen Nevis forest by 1927. What happened to the forest workers?

Any further early details and names of foresters and workers would be very welcome.
