This hand drawn and coloured forestry planting information on an OS map shows a rather confusing progression of new planting from year to year. The cartographer has had to battle hard against the very dark Ordnance Survey backdrop and really difficult to see some of the detail. The earliest planting seems to have been around 1953 and progresses on this map up to the mid 1960s. Of note is the reference to a Pine Reserve just south of the blue flooded area in Compartments 1-19. This map is headed Fasnakyle section and labelled Chief Forester’s copy.

Any further early details and names of foresters and workers would be very welcome.
