Forestry Squad at rest break
Ken Johnston from the Strachur area in south Argyll through his daughter Kirsty has sent this photograph from his early days in forestry.
The group of workers are part of the forestry team working for Thomas W Dalgleish and Son at Stonehouse, Lanarkshire. Ken has named them from the left as follows:
John Boyd (Went to Benmore Forestry School in 1960)
Andrew Clanachan (Forestry Worker)
Rab Todd (Forestry Worker)
Brian McCluskey (Forestry Worker from Ireland)
Hughie Bell (Lorry Driver)
George Millard (with pipe - Tractor Driver - believed to have died in bothy fire incident when a spark landed on some gelignite and detonators being kept in the bothy to dry)
Andrew Westie ( Forester ex Glentress Forestry School)
The tractor behind looks to be some type of Fordson with heavy rear winch driven off the PTO? being used to haul any felled trees.
