Inchnacardoch Forest Employees

Date Added: 04 February 2017 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1926 Picture No: 3512

Early photograph taken in 1926 from a forestry album of 117 photographs compiled by an unknown Forestry Commission officer.

The caption reads:
‘Seventy employees on Estate on 1st May 1926. The number includes the five original employees.’

This amazing photograph shows the line up of all the Forestry Commission employees on the forest on the 1st May and may include the younger boys who could have been employed seasonally in the forest nursery. There may be a young forester shown as number 1 on the left as he is wearing a tie. Incidentally his trouser right leg is tucked into his sock – standard dress modification for going on bicycle to prevent entanglement of trousers in chain. Note the large bothy or accommodation hut behind.

Again there is no indication of names but can anyone provide any names? See large photograph and numbers by clicking on the little button with magnifying image to bottom right of photograph. Unfortunately the quality of the photograph fades to the far left. Some of the older men will no doubt be staying in the bothies and have arrived from other areas of the country. The younger boys in the front row are more likely to be sons of local families and with an age of around 13-15 years some will have been born in and around 1910.
