Mr L A Newton (First name not known) was District Officer in the north Division, Inverness from 1920 – 1925 after which he was based at Tintern and South Wales for one year. In 1926 he was posted as a District Officer in the Scottish Assistant Commissioner’s Office in Edinburgh with responsibility for acquisitions, in 1932 as District Officer In south east and west Divisions, Edinburgh and in 1934 in the Northeast Division, based in Aberdeen. From 1948 to retirement in 1953 was a Conservator in the Scottish Director’s Office on private forestry and land acquisition duties (info G B Ryle book and Journals of the Forestry Commission – unfortunately no first names ).
The years of duty in North Scotland, access to Edinburgh staff and postings to South East and West Scotland plus acquisitions duties give a time profile which fits in well with the mystery photograph album. He is certainly one of the few people who could have taken and compiled the range of photographs in the album.
