This newspaper cutting from the Evening Express in 2013 was highlighted by Abbie Gordon of Banchory. Attempts to contact the Newspaper and find the source of the photograph were not successful.

The photograph features three men cross cutting Scots pine in Glen Muick following the devastating windblow of January 1953. One man is using an early chain saw (most of which is hidden by the log) to cut the tree which must have been dragged in the length to the timber conversion site. The other two men are using stout pieces of wood or ‘spokes’ to lever the tree slightly upwards to prevent the logs closing in on the saw as it cuts through and trapping the saw blade.
The men are not named but a suggestion is that the man on the extreme left could be a young Jim Webster who went on to become a Head Forester in Morayshire.

Names and the identity of the original photograph donor to the newspaper would be very welcome.
