Planting in Clashindarroch Forest 1934

Date Added: 12 November 2016 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1934 Picture No: 3463

This newspaper cutting from the Press and Journal in 2014 was highlighted by Abbie Gordon of Banchory. Attempts to contact the Newspaper and find the source of the photograph were not successful.

The photograph features one planting team working on what could be high up on the Kirkney face above and opposite Drumfergue or perhaps a bit further upstream from that point. The first planting in the forest started about 1933.

The men have been numbered but at this point no names have been suggested although No 1 may have a passing likeness to James Thom who worked in the forest at this time. No 7 has featured in another photograph (No 176) on this site but not named.

The trees on this steep site did grow very well and most were harvested in the late 1980s.

Any names would be very welcome (See large photograph).
