David Phillip on Lour Estate

David is using a long handled pruning saw to cut the lower branches off some Scots pine to clear the way for a future fence. The Scots pine is showing typical heavy branched growth caused in this case by planting on a moderately rich site which presents many problems for foresters and sawmillers. Heavy snow falls can cause severe damage to the crowns of the pine trees with this type of branching resulting in either dead or very deformed trees.
In the attached PDF David is snedding out and cutting up the large braches cut off the trees with an axe.
