Torrachility Forest - planting map
The map is courtesy of Forestry Commission at Inverness, Ross and Skye Forest District.
This battered and worn planting map is difficult to read but some compartment and species details can be seen. There are handwritten notes on areas denoted as Forest Worker Holdings and also the names of neighbouring farms or grazings. Also along the outside of the boundary fence someone has has written in where and what are the post, netting and dropper requirements to maintain the fence.
The Compartment numbers appear to start at No 1 in the Tarvie Wood and Rogie Holding locality with the year denoted as possibly 1950. In other areas the Compartments go as 76 with planting in 1961.
Any information on the start of the forest, the foresters and workers at that time would be very welcome.
