Bruce Douglas and 'Discovery' masts

The year is around 1989 when a request was received to supply timber for new masts for the famous Antarctic explorer vessel ‘’Discovery’’ based in Dundee. Suitable trees were located at Reelig Glen and Glen Affric forest areas, felled, extracted and peeled ready for up lift. Bruce Douglas felled the trees with Stihl saw and long blade. They were extracted by the Forest District Timberjack 225D driven by Dougie (Shenner) MacDonald.
The PDF contains photographs showing Bruce, snedding out the tree and a full length log peeled and ready for pick up. Note the unusual 'pull out' on the base of the peeled tree caused by cutting into the centre of the tree from the throat of the lay in cut.
