Glen Brittle, Isle of Skye 1996
A sudden thaw following weeks of hard frost combined with timber haulage traffic, caused approx. 2000 metres of forestry road to collapse at the north end of Glen Brittle.
To allow timber haulage to continue, an emergency repair team consisting of an Aveling Barford Road Grader, (operator Duncan Cameron), Ford TW15Tractor with a Stother & Pitt Vibrating Roller, (operator the late Lul Kennedy), and a mixed fleet of Leyland & Foden 8 wheeled tippers, was sent to Skye to carry out the repairs.
Material for the repairs was crushed rock from the now defunct HRC quarry near the Sligachan Hotel and also some local gravel from a nearby FC borrow pit.
I think the tipper driver in this shot is the late Lesley Cameron.
The job took about 2 weeks to complete.
