Image of Gunning Motors lorry (Volvo F10 B253DSJ?) being unloaded at Irvine Paper Mill, North Ayrshire. The Valmet grab just about takes the full bolster load of 3 meter spruce pulp wood in one lift.

Gunning Motors remembered well all over Scotland as it was they who had the fertiliser haulage contract for many years delivering the material to the helicopter spreading sites. Many of these sites were difficult to reach, forest road standards were in many cases marginal especially in wet weather. Some of the single track council roads were equally difficult and fragile with lorry wheels just fitting on the running surface or not as happened. The drivers were in the main a very experienced crew, seldom beaten by conditions and pretty expert at extricating themselves from any ground problems.

Early in the year all the potential fertilising sites were visited by a representative from BEAS/ Dollar who may have been Jock Simpson accompanied by someone from Gunnings who may have been called John. Can anyone remember or confirm their names?
