Scottish Forest Product Development group
Photograph courtesy of David Foot, Surrey.
David writes ‘The purpose of the group was to promote a renaissance of the wood using industry in Scotland following the collapse of the Scottish Pulp and Paper Mills and other factories in the severe recession in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Over a period of about ten years it worked to attract into Scotland (and North England) several new wood processing plants including Norbord in Dalcross, and (much later) Caledonian Paper at Irvine.
The group comprised:
Forestry Commission
Highlands and Islands Development Board
Scottish Enterprise
The Private Forestry Sector
Forestry Industry Council of Great Britain’.
