Plough Cross draining team - Aultmore

This is the driver of the tractor hitched to the large Humpy draining plough with the head or boot fully raised out of the ground. Note the large moveable mould board packer which thrusts the drain soil and peat well away back from the edge of the drain. This is a right hand throw draining head; left hand throws were also available.
The upward curve in the beam or hump allowed the large ribbon of peat or soil as it was lifted by the plough head to pass unobstructed onto the ground surface at the side of the drain.
The tractor registrations are UMD 768F and SMV 507F and first therefore first registered in 1967/68.
