Long Douglas fir poles at Portclair Forest

Special lorries with extending trailers from G G and D F Turnbull loaded with the long Douglas fir poles start their journey to Belfast via Corpach boat basin.
The poles came from a thinning of a stand in Portclair Forest planted shortly after Portclair Forest was acquired in 1919 by the Forestry Commission very soon after its formation. This was the first acquisition of land by the Forestry Commission in Scotland.
Perhaps someone can give details of the planting year of the Douglas fir, the average size or largest volume and length of the trees and any other details of the pole dimensions?
