Felled area around badger sett
The images are courtesy of Inverness, Ross and Skye Forest District and staff at their Fort Augustus office.
View of felled site at Drumcluse in a forest in the Great Glen area showing an area which has been clear felled by hand around a badger sett and high stumps left to demarcate the area in future.
As badgers are a protected species special measures have to be carried out when their setts are located within the middle of an area being clearfelled including timings of operations and minimising disturbance by machines. Leaving the area with standing trees is seldom an option as in time they would blow over taking massive root plates up and severely damaging the sett.

And did this work? Or did the animals desert the sett and move to another location with more (some) cover.
