Near Storr Skye - Aerial fertilising
The images are courtesy of Inverness, Ross and Skye Forest District and staff at their Fort Augustus office.
The attached PDF shows a series of views of an aerial fertilising operation using Helitourist Helicopter registration number LN-ORT during the 1980s. At one point the aerial fertilisation contract for the whole of the country was placed on open tender and several companies not familiar with the forest locations or the operating conditions did succeed in securing the contract. Some of these companies suffered significant time and cost over runs and the programme fell well behind. This could be one of these companies brought in to catch up.
Note that the loading site is next to the public road and hopefully the skid mark is not a sign of a vehicle accident! The Old Man of Storr is just visible on the right. The PDF shows the loading operation into the spreading hoppers using a hydraulic crane on the back of a Unimog and the lift off by the helicopter with its heavy load.
Any details on the this company an the helicopter would be very welcome
