This was one of the most difficult clear fells of mixed Scots fir and hard wood because of the wet conditions for extraction a Fordson major and a two speed Boughton winch was used to pull the fowarder out to dry land, no skidding by winch was aloud this meant less down time for sharpening the band saw blades, the boughton winch rope was pulled out to the hitch at the front of the forwarder plenty of slack was aloud on the rope both tractor engines running the boughton winch anchor dug well in then first gear was used a dead slow pull in, sprint back to the forwarder by this time the rope was tight it never failed slamming the forwarder into neutral running back to the fordson and switching off, ie. a one man job and highly dangerous.
