Hand Weeding in Tree Nursery
The photograph is courtesy of Inverness, Ross and Skye Forest District and staff at their Fort Augustus office.
The beautiful photograph captures the scale of the task of hand weeding seed beds before the use of more modern chemicals reduced the many hours of tedious hand work. It is possible this image was taken by George Dey and may be from Newton Nursery at around 1975 or later.
Does anyone recognise the lady?

Can you imagine leaving school at fifteen years of age and straight into weeding seed beds as in the picture above although "sitting" down was a definite no. Both knees down on a hessian sack for days on end.
