50th Anniversary of Forestry Commission

A series of photographs taken of a well turned out display in a hall possibly near Glenmore Forest Park (Queen’s Forest) celebrating the first 50 years of the Forestry Commission.
The sections of the display highlight the various work roles within the then Commission and includes the role of seed collection and production of young trees for planting out on the hills. The left side display headed treatment shows a tall photograph of a tree bicycle parked up a tall larch tree with the man high up in the crown collecting the cones off the branches. Other parts of this display board cover the extraction of tree seed and process of sowing to lifting of transplants for the hill.
This section headed Nursery is a lineal display split into 1919 and 1969 which seems to indicate the progress in tree growing efficiency from the seed extracted from one bushel of cones. The 1919 nursery output from one bushel of cones was five acres whereas in 1969 was 50 acres.
Note the bushel measure filled with cones below the display and the bag of seed representing the product from a bushel? Can anyone say why the sides of a bushel measure always sloped inwards?
The final part of this display section is given over to some type of young tree identification using a turning switch and lights which linked the mature tree image to its seedling.
