Forestry Commission Forest Fire Leaflet
The item is courtesy of Will Anderson, Seafield and Strathspey Estates.
The advisory fire leaflet is thought to date from 1937 from information of the print run on the last page. The leaflet does convey the message with a sense of humour and some pithy sayings as can be judged from the pages shown in the attached PDF. It seems to be focussed on a Scottish visitor audience as some of the examples of plantation loss quoted are from Scotland with plantations valued at around twelve pounds per acre!
This must be one of the first FC publications promoting a message via humour and the Forestry Commission seems to have secured one of the best cartoon artists of the day. Note the signature of the artist on the first page appears to be Fougasse and likely to be the pen name of Cyril Kenneth Bird, (17 December 1887 - 11 June 1965) who was a British cartoonist best known for his editorship of Punch magazine and his World War II warning propaganda posters. He also designed many posters for the London Underground.
