Photograph courtesy of Pat McAuley. This shows the small tree nursery on a rainy day when the lining out benches and beds have been abandoned til' the shower passes. The wooden boxes hold thousands of small trees probably about 2 years old (3-5inches)which have been lifted from the seed beds where they were sown. On and behind the tressels are lining out boards in which the small trees are clamped so that they can be planted in evenly spaced out lines to allow them to grow into suitable sized trees for planting out on the hills (12-20inches). The large frames are wind shelters to keep the cold and sometimes drying winds off the people filling the lining out boards but more importantly off the small plants with exposed roots.
The house behind I believe may have been occupied by the under forester at that time Dave Solway.

The wind break shelters in the nursery I worked for in the 1960s were used to prevent a sudden breeze blowing the small plants off the board before you could get the hinged gate down on them. Comment left on 11 May 2016 at 12:50 by Leslie Phillip
