Building Bailey Bridge at Ardross Forest
Photograph is courtesy of Inverness, Ross and Skye Forest District and staff at their Fort Augustus office.
The details on this photograph are very brief ‘Building Bailey at Ardross’.
The local terrain would appear to point to the location as being up Strathrusdale area possibly following the acquisitions of land from Kildermorie and Dalmore Estates in 1953 and 54. The photograph has there for been dated as 1955.
Great work image and record of how it was done before the hydraulic and electronic age. This image is particularly good at showing one of the double side walls going on the bridge and men pushing the locking pins through. Members of the team are holding the last panel and awaiting their turn to lock it into place. Unfortunately many of the men’s faces are turned away and the full extent of the bridge is hidden along with a view of the positioning rollers.
Can anyone confirm if this is the bridge near Inchlumpie and over the Blackwater?
Can any of the Forestry Commission bridge team be named?
