Forwarder extraction of pulpwood

No information with this photograph which could have been part of the display in the Farigaig Forest Visitor Centre at one time. Perhaps someone could name the tractor type fitted with Hiab grapple crane and hitched to a three meter timber trailer?

This was almost certainly a Forestry Commission machine at one time as per the 1966 London Registration plate. Could it be working on the west coast following the 1968 gale that blew the roofs off in Glasgow and hundreds of thousands of trees in many forests?

Any information would be very welcome especially the name of the driver!

It looks like an early Volvo SM 360/460 built around the Bolinders-Munktell three cylinder tractor. The clues are that it has the correct rear mudguards, the way the band tracks are around all four wheels, the shape of the trailer bolsters and the trailer's dual wheels, but it doesn't have the Volvo all enclosing bonnet, or enclosed cab. Possibly a prototype?

It's so well guarded with those extended side plates that doing any work on the engine would be difficult. Comment left on 22 November 2015 at 16:01 by David Shearer.

This is a MF165-based "Robur". It was made in Sweden by the ANA, the swedish MF importer. It has 3/4-tracks and a tail-steered trailer. Comment left on 12 February 2017 at 21:08 by Norman Tietz
