Culbin Forest Stock Map No 2
Maps are courtesy of Moray and Aberdeenshire Forest District.
This is a resurvey map of Culbin Forest’s eastern main area of woodlands. The whole forest was surveyed around 1967 and the compartments areas re-measured and plotted more accurately with the aid of aerial photographs and more up to date Ordnance Survey maps. The compartments were all renumbered, the sequence running from Compartment No 1 in the east to No 254 in Downie Wood in the west although only part of the sequence is shown here. This is one of two maps.
The principal tree species can easily be noted as Scots pine with little other species diversity in the western end of the main forest area (not many other tree species tolerate the sand and gravel conditions) but there is a wide range and mix of planting years from 1888 to 1971.
Any details about the forest or your work in the forest are very welcome.
