Dallas Forest

Lovely hand drawn and coloured map of what was a standalone Forestry Commission forest of Dallas prior to its amalgamation into Monaughty Forest. There is unfortunately no key with the map but upon looking at the 1968 resurvey version it would appear that the dark red colouration signifies established plantations at time of acquisition of the land (circa 1946?) which turns out to be mainly 1933 Scots pine. The pale red colour depicts land which was used as by neighbouring farms and as such was not given clearance by the Agricultural depts. for planting.
The planted (yellow ochre) areas only were given Compartment numbers and run from 1-50 including a small inserted map from the further afield Burgie section. The earliest planting seems to be 1947 and extends until 1957 when much of the available land is used up. The species used included Scots and Lodgepole pine , larch, Sitka and Norway spruce.
