Bin Forest stock Map 1965
Map is courtesy of Moray and Aberdeenshire Forest District.
This appears to be one of the first resurveyed maps of part of the Bin Forest which includes the Forest areas of from the west:
Ardonald
Wood of Milleath
Dunbennan Wood
Bin
Garrowmuir Wood
Brownhill
Cumrie
The survey team have renumbered the compartments and written in each the tree species and planting year. The team will also have checked and, where necessary, resurveyed all the boundaries and certainly the forest roads most of which were constructed with the help of ex service people (Burma Roads) around 1949-52.
The oldest trees (P21-23) appear to be in Compartments 318-320 near Drumdelgie but not sure if this was FC planting or not. Most of the rest of planting appears to start around 1926 on the south and east sides of the main Bin Forest area some of which was burnt and replanted in 1945-46.
This map is very similar to that in Forest Picture No 2996 (previous image) but note that the Ardonald area is not fully marked out in this map which may indicate that this map was produced a year or so prior to the one in Picture No 2996
