Riddoch’s sawmill at Boughtpark, Strathdon

Date Added: 15 June 2015 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1940 Picture No: 2977

Photograph initially from Ronald Smith of Portgordon, placed in Press and Journal and newspaper clipping given by Gordon Smith who knew several of the men featured. The workers for A G and W J Riddoch of Rothiemay are named as from the left :

First with horse – not named
W Fell
Sam Craib
Alfie Scott
Unnamed
Alex Sim
P Smeaton
Willie Munro
Willie Reid

Gordon Smith recalls that Willie Munro was the head of the team (sawmiller?) and that Willie Reid and Sandy Sim in later years worked as saw doctors for Riddochs.

Any information on the people, the mill and its location would be very welcome. A good scan of the original photograph would also be appreciated.

I think the caption should read "Roughpark", there was still a Sawmill there in the 1960s Comment left on 15 June 2015 at 22:37 by Jimmy Thain
