Minute to all Forests in East Conservancy 1961

The addressees are the main interest in the minute as it lists the 37 individual forest units in the East Scotland Conservancy prior to major amalgamations which occurred nationally in early and mid parts of the 1960s. The individual forests with their evocative names are listed as follows:

Note the content of the minute which describes the process for correcting a misidentification of a Lodgepole pine seed lot. At some point in the 1950s there was an international agreement on area identification of all collected tree seed that was traded. Continents, countries and country regions were all allocated numbers and these numbers were then used as the Identification labels for seed collected within them. For example the Americas were allocated number 7, Canada became 71, British Columbia, 711 and the Province was further divided with Vancouver Island as 7116 plus further local area divisions by adding numbers out with the brackets (7116)3 to denote north south etc. The actual year of seed collection, in this case 1958, was usually added as a prefix and thus the full number sequence would appear as 58(7116)3 and became the Seed Identity Number.
