John McLeod, Head Forester of Sunart Forest is at helm of the FC motor launch Gannet, used to carry men and material across the loch fron Salen to Glencripesdale. Alan Cameron (Big Alan) from Duneira, Kentra is with him in the stern of the boat.
The weather for the daily crossings was notoriosly unpredictable and many return sailings were very rough and wet as rising winds were funneled up or down the narrow sea loch. The local staff had many tales of some fearful crossings and even refusals to even undertake the passage on some occasions.
