Motorised herbicide sprayer — Panmure Estate
Photograph courtesy of Leslie Phillip, Perth, showing him using a motorised sprayer spreading granular herbicide called ‘Prefix’ on the grass and other vegetation around small planted conifer trees.
See PDF for another view of Leslie using the machine with bag of ‘Prefix ‘nearby. Note the protective leg gaiters to prevent herbicide tricking down into the boots.
Any accounts of experiences in using this sprayer would be very. welcome

This particular machine was manufactured by Horsten farmery the two stroke engine was of Japanese origin, the combined weight with the hopper full of granules was around half a hundred weight. (a nice keep fit machine)

The Prefix granular applicator in this picture belonged to Panmure Estate and was operated by myself. A further two were hired from the CSC depot in Forfar when needed. Less young plants were damaged this way.

The leg gaiters were handy for protection against low creeping brambles etc. Tripping and falling face down was a common occurrence.
