Margaret (Greta) Johnston—Women’s Timb
Photograph and information is courtesy of Alan Mallarkey, the son of Margaret. Alan only has a little information on his mother’s Women’s Timber Corps activities and nothing of the other ladies featured. Margaret from Edinburgh, initially trained in September 1943 for the WTC at Park House, thought to be the one near Drumoak, Aberdeenshire and was then posted to Carmislane House, Sauchen in November 1943, the Crathie Unit, Aberdeenshire in March 1945 and finally to Glen Striven near Dunoon from July 1945 to November 1945 when she was released from service.
Margaret is seen here standing in the middle of the back row at an unknown location. Some of the ladies are in serviceable work clothing consisting of bib and brace overalls and may have just returned from a work site.
We would welcome any information on the other ladies featured in the photographs, the role of Park House as a Training Centre for the WTC, details of Carmislane House near Sauchen and any information on any ladies who served in these locations as well as Crathie and Loch Striven during their WTC service.
