Cleaning blocked plough furrows Glen Affric
Photograph courtesy of Bill Rayner, Tibbermore who has provided the details.
Hand cleaning a furrow using a hack, or drain drag, is ‘Cheshire’ Cameron, working near Fanque Loch, Beinn-nan-Sparra, Glen Affric. ‘Cheshire’ was a member of the Cannich squad and usually worked with George ‘Geordie’ Douglas.
Note the cross drain a little below ‘Cheshire’ which has been laboriously cut and dug out by hand to carry the water away from the hollow in the series of furrows.
