RSFS Tour Deeside — Fetteresso Forest

RSFS tour and visit to harvesting site in Fetteresso Forest where the main subject appears to be thinning with a timber harvester during the early days of bringing in smaller harvester heads onto smaller excavator bases. This could be a an Atlas excavator base and certainly has a Pika 450 harvesting head fitted and carrying out thinning operations in Sitka spruce.
This view shows the harvester operator and in the background some forestry people. The man with the back to the camera is almost certainly Andy Martin Harvesting Forester in Buchan Forest District at the Huntly section who at the time had gained the most experience in programming and understanding the computerised electronics and output information from these early harvesters. He would have been giving a brief talk to the RSFS members. The other man in the red had is possibly Dave Garrow the harvesting forester for the Kincardine Forest District and covered Fetteresso Forest. The operator of the Atlas/Pika harvester is ?
