Transporting deer fencing posts - Glencripesdale

Glencripesdale acquired in late 1951 from the Epps family and Jimmy Cameron (seated at controls of tractor)helped Jocky Thomson (tractor driver from Fort Augustus) take the first Caterpillar D2 tractor into the Glen via a narrow track from Laudale. Jimmy soon learned to drive the D2 and was given the job full time, first taking the fencing out and then ploughing the glen for tree planting. He remembers using a Begg plough which was modified by mechanics Tommy Cameron and Gus Macdonald so that it had two disc coulters to improve furrow turn over. Helping him with the ploughing at times was Bob MacBeth.
In the picture on the tractor with Jimmy is Iain MacGillivray from Acharacle and in the lead is another D2 (wide tracks)driven by John MacSwan who was in Glencripesdale temporarily to help distribute the material for the perimeter fence being put up by an Irish contract squad.
