Track repairs Glensgiach, Torrachilty

Tractor with possible registration number TSF524K is obviously having some work done to its track frame or chain by a FC Mobile Mechanic from the Longman Workshop. The track plates and chain have been slipped off and now being hauled back on - most likely by the engine turning the drive sprocket and the two men with long bar in the end of the chain lifting it over the top rollers as it is pulled through. Heavy work with high risks of slippage. The other end was usually lifted manually over the front idler and once the two ends were close the removable track pin hammered home to join the two end links.

The other vehicle is the typical mobile mechanic large van set up with tools and equipment slotted into shelves and cubby holes or retained by straps. Often a cold wet and none too clean job but at least they worked on their own initiative and saw a bit of the countryside.

It looks like Len Newman in the cab (International CEW70?) with Jocky Banks on the lever next to the tractor but could be the mechanic from the Longman Workshop. Back to the camera looks a bit like Jackie MacDonald a tractor driver but again uncertain and any positive identifications welcomed.

Same as image 1533, but a slightly different view. Comment left on 24 January 2015 at 21:27 by Billy Mackay.
Thanks Billy. Forgot about the 1533 image which came from George Dey's first collection. In that case the man next to the tractor on the lever is Ali Campbell the Longman mechanic. Comment left on 25 January 2015 at 08:27 by Norman Davidson
No problem Norman. Highlight of my School Summer Holidays way back then was a Friday afternoon visit to the FC Longman Workshop with my Father and occasionaly my Grandfather, then retired from the FC. I recall meeting Alistair Campbell and I remember the other Longman Mobile Mechanics at the time as Donnie Gault and Ally Mackintosh. Happy days!
