Plough used with special SLGP D4 Tractor
The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.
Close up views of the specially constructed reasonably lightweight double mouldboard D60/-/t which was teamed up with the modified Caterpillar D4 super low ground pressure tractor (SLGP). The track frames and axles were pushed sideways out from the tractor body thus allowing much wider track plates in the region of 4 feet to be fitted. An amazing machine which coped very well with the peat conditions in the flows of Caithness as here and elsewhere in the north of Scotland. The driver was Donnie Junor from the Black Isle. Can anyone identify the location?
The second photograph is shown in the attached PDF and is a closer view of front of plough.
