The PDF contains another view of the moth and also that of a Delta pheromone trap used to lure male moths to the device where they would stick to the adhesive substance on the bottom. Counts of moths trapped thus in the various areas gave an early indication of population levels and the potential need to take egg counts at a later stage and prepare for possible spraying operations once the caterpillars hatched.
Heavy populations of caterpillars (larvae) could kill substantial areas of Lodgepole pine trees.
