Skidding whole length trees up to a roadside at Ae Forest with a Falstone skidder for conversion.
Can anyone give background detail on this machine design and manufacture?

Hi Leslie,
I am not entirely sure who decided to call this conversion the Falstone. I think it may be linked back to the trials of the original prototype machine in the Kielder area in the late siixties and early seventies. Falstone is a small village close to Kielder where the work study trials took place.
It is interesting to note that at least two other tractor conversions were designed by the Forestry Commission around the same time and those machines were named the Eggesford and Malvern. Comment left on 31 March 2016 at 21:27 by David McQuillan

When me and my sons were contracted to the Commission in the 1980's we just had Fordson Majors and winches. I managed to make enough to buy 22 acres from them. It had been clear felled, it now has 4 houses and 45 chalets on it.
