Forest Worker planting tree on ploughed peat
Photographs are courtesy of Colin Lawson son of Wilfred Lawson, a forester who trained at Benmore Forester Training School and was posted to South Strome Forest from 1951.
There is no information on location, year or the name of the worker. The location could be around South Strome Forest where Wilfred Lawson worked for some time.
The man is planting Sitka spruce into large peat ribbons thrown out by a single furrow Cuthbertson type plough after he has cut out a large step into the peat to ensure the tree roots are positioned near to the covered vegetation layer underneath. Note the fresh snow lying on the ploughing.
