South Strome forest - J G D Munro skidders

J G D Munro and Partners of Dingwall Sawmills harvesting site on South Strome Forest with Loch Carron in the distance below. A great over view of a harvesting site around 1991 where the Clark Ranger grapple skidder with wheel chains is heading out for another bunch of trees along a dozed track. Behind it in the distance another Clark Ranger skidder is pulling a bunch of trees up to which is almost certainly the large delimber mounted on a JCB but the distance too great to see the detail. The skidders were often worked by Jimmy Phillips and Alex MacAskill could be easily converted to winch cable skidders as they had winches and main rollers fitted.
Beyond them the outline of a heavily loaded lorry is set to make its way up the steep narrow road – looks like an 8 wheeler and possible the only machines that could cope with the narrow roads of this era.
