Durris Estate woodlands - Craigie to Daff Mulloch (2nd in sequence)
Details of planting, thinning and clearing dead wood as well as sales of trees to Dyer and Co of Peebles, John Souter, John Bisset and A&G Paterson. Blown larch trees sold for 2/6 each and Scots pine only 6d each! Some indication of the prices as 1/- per cubic foot for larch timbers, 10d for spars and 5d for pine and spruce indicating that larch was held in high esteem. There is a mention of Scots pine seed from Ballochbuie Forest (Balmoral).
The species of trees used for initial planting and for beating up are described as well as the problems with rabbits and having to wire and net fence. The process of pit planting large Douglas fir trees 3-4 feet high is mentioned and the high density of planting Scots pine at something like 2000 plants per acre (not actually specified in detail).
