Crathes Estate — Clearing the road — 1
This Bon-Accord Photograph is courtesy of company and Forestry Commission, Moray and Aberdeenshire Forest District who hold the image.
This photograph appears to have been taken at the same time as that of the visit of FC senior staff to view the gale damage in North East Scotland on 12 Feb 1953.
Forestry workers are loading logs cut from blown trees onto a small lorry with the help of a Jones Super 22 Crane with scissor tongs which is unfortunately mostly hidden behind upturned roots.
Can anyone say anything about the type of lorry and the crane?

Users in Aberdeenshire would have been Food distributors, Cattle Floaters, Timber merchants ETC.
The Forestry Commission would have been still using some in 1953 but I note that there is no insignia on the Door.
It is most likely that the Bedford was bought second hand to deal with the “blow”, they were quite tough vehicles some were still running into the 1960s .
The Jones Crane on the other hand was not the usual thing found in the woods and was probably quite new at the time and hired for the occasion .
